About the Library

The library is a county-wide library, which serves a population of approximately 44,000.

Shelby County Public Library is a Class A library.

A branch is located in Morristown, Indiana, which has a population of about 1,300.

Shelby County is made up of the City of Shelbyville, surrounding smaller towns, and rural areas.

The staff is currently composed of about 35 people.

Shelby County Public Library offers many programs for Adults, Teens, and Children, ranging from Story times, Book Discussions, and How-To programs. Entertainment programs are also offered.

Services include faxing, copying, scanning, Genealogy searches, Outreach/Homebound Deliveries, room rentals, and more.

The Shelby County Public Library Outdoor Plaza, flanked by Carnegie East Wing (left) and the main library branch (right), nestles in the center of the library campus in Shelbyville and offers benches to relax on and tables and chairs on which to read and eat.
