2004Racestart.jpg

Karen Land, a three-time veteran of the Iditarod sled dog race, will share stories from her experience on the trail on Sat., March 9 at 11am at the library (Free event! No reservations are necessary to attend).

The trek from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska is 1,149 miles and is typically completed in under 15 days. The sled is loaded with about 200 pounds of gear and sets off in front of crowds of spectators and television cameras. The trail is a harsh landscape of tundra and spruce forests and runs over hills, mountain passes, and across frozen rivers. After living and training in Montana for 20 years, Karen now lives in Indianapolis.

"Kids" of all ages (from pre-K to retired adults!) will enjoy listening to her presentation and meeting Noggin, her Alaskan husky! The presentation will take place in the main library. Thank you, Friends of the Library, for sponsoring this event!
