INBETWEEN THE PAGES Book Discussion Group

  • Shelby County Public Library 57 West Broadway Street Shelbyville, IN, 46176 United States (map)

This book discussion group is geared toward those in 3rd-6th grades. Every third Thursday of the month at 4:30 p.m. we'll talk about the book we picked out and you'll get a book to take with you to read for the next month. We'll also have an activity or a craft to go along with it and snacks.

Anyone is welcome to attend and check it out! Books are chosen based on common interests for the age group and reading level. Often, book options are provided by the librarian and choices are made by votes. Sometimes, the librarian chooses the material.

Brandy Graves, Department Head of Youth Services, will lead the discussions. Questions? (317) 398-7121 ext. 230 or bgraves@sscpl.lib.in.us.

APRIL BOOK:

THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH by Norton Juster

Hailed as “a classic. . . . humorous, full of warmth and real invention” (The New Yorker), this beloved story -first published more than fifty years ago- introduces readers to Milo and his adventures in the Lands Beyond.

For Milo, everything’s a bore. When a tollbooth mysteriously appears in his room, he drives through only because he’s got nothing better to do. But on the other side, things seem different. Milo visits the Island of Conclusions (you get there by jumping), learns about time from a ticking watchdog named Tock, and even embarks on a quest to rescue Rhyme and Reason! Somewhere along the way, Milo realizes something astonishing. Life is far from dull. In fact, it’s exciting beyond his wildest dreams. . . .
