Shelby County Public Library - Support the Library

Giving Opportunities:

Partner with the Shelby County Public Library and help provide the community with resources that promote lifelong learning. All charitable contributions are tax deductible and provide funding for the SCPL collection, services, and programs.

Financial donations may be designated to any of the following areas: Direct Donations, Library Foundation, Friends of the Library, Memorials, or Planned Giving. SCPL also gladly accepts donations of items such as books and audiovisual materials.

Your support is deeply appreciated.

Direct Donations:

Any donations allotted to the general SCPL fund will be used effectively to improve the library's facility or resources.

As stated in the Shelby County Public Library’s Collection Development Policy: “Any materials donated to the library legally and physically become the permanent property of the Library. Records of family and local history also become the permanent property of the Library. Files may be digitized and included in an online database.”

Library Foundation:

The library is part of a permanent endowment (est. in 1986) that assists and helps fund library development. The Foundation Board meets twice a year and depends on contributions to raise funds.

Friends of the Library:

Become involved with the Friends of the Library and help bring programs and projects which fall outside the usual budget to the library. Proceeds directly help with the Christmas Tea and other special events.

Library Wishlists:

Help fulfill books and dvds that we would like to add to our collection! We have created the following Amazon Wishlists of items that we hope to include on our shelves for check-out:

Young Adult

Movies / Audiobooks

Honor a loved one or friend with a memorial contribution. A commemorative bookplate will be placed in library material. You may request to have bookplates placed in a specific subject of material.

Planned Giving:

Help ensure the library remains functional and technologically advanced. Planned giving includes estate gifts and current gifts that may be in the form of a will, charitable trust, or life insurance.

Donations of Items:

Bring books, audiovisual materials, and other items* that you wish to donate to the main circulation desk. Library staff will help unload if assistance is needed. These gifts will be used in the SCPL collection or will be placed in the Friends of the Library booksales.

*We cannot accept the following items as donations:

  • Items which have a strong odor to them
