We encourage you to read with our community during the thirteenth season of Shelby County Reads. Books will be available at the public and school libraries or purchase a copy locally at Three Sisters Books and Gifts

Books for all age levels are chosen each year and are distributed to Shelby County Schools. We are celebrating Indiana authors and books in conjunction with the state's bicentennial.

PLANNED SHELBY COUNTY READS EVENTS:
Barbara Shoup is the author of seven novels, as well as numerous works of nonfiction and creative nonfiction. She has received local and national recognition for her writing, including the 2006 PEN/Phyllis Naylor Working Writer Fellowship and the 2012 Eugene and Marilyn Glick Regional Indiana Author Award. 

She will be leading a Writer’s Workshop at the Shelby County Public Library on Monday, Aug. 29 from 6:30-8:30pm (FREE EVENT) and signing books beforehand (5-6pm). RSVP to attend the workshop at 317-392-2270 or 3sisters@threesistersbooks.com.

Meet local authors and say hi to Clifford the Big Red Dog at Three Sisters Books & Gifts during First Friday events on Shelbyville’s Public Circle on Friday, Sept. 2 from 6-9pm.
Teens, join us for green crafts, activities, and games at the Shelby Co. Public Library for a special “Teen Tuesday” to celebrate Indiana author, John Green. The event will start at 6:30pm on Tues., Sept. 13

Helen Frost will be speaking to all Shelby County fourth grade students about her book, Salt: A Story of Friendship in a Time of War, on Sept. 27 and 28. Helen Frost is a poet, playwright, and children’s writer who lives in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Salt is an award-winning book that takes place in the forests of Indiana Territory during the War of 1812.
Philip Gulley is a Quaker pastor, writer and speaker from Danville, IN. An eclectic writer, Gulley has published twenty books including the acclaimed Harmony series and the best-selling Porch Talk series. Gulley’s memoir, I Love You, Miss Huddleston: And Other Inappropriate Longings of My Indiana Childhood, recounts his coming-of-age years. He will be speaking at the Grover Museum on Thurs., Sept. 29 at 7pm. To honor Kurt Vonnegut’s work, the library will be hosting a “Breakfast of Champions” brunch on Saturday, October 1 at 9:30 a.m. Professor Jason Aukerman will lead a morning presentation about Vonnegut’s life and work alongside a potluck breakfast. The Shelby County Reads committee will provide muffins, drinks, and other simple breakfast snacks. We are encouraging attendees to bring their favorite cereal or breakfast bar to share! Jason teaches at IUPUI and has taught at Olivet Nazarene University. His thesis study was on Kurt Vonnegut.
