We encourage you to read with the community! The eleventh season of Shelby County Reads launched on January 25, 2014.
Eight titles that focused on the theme Horse Tales were selected to compete in the organization's first book race. Votes for the books were collected at Three Sisters Books and Gifts, Shelby County public and school libraries and online. The overall winner was:
COWBILLY GEORGE by F.S. Haltom (Pre K - Grade 1)
BRAMBLE AND MAGGIE: HORSE MEETS GIRL by Jessie Haas (Grades 1-2)
JUSTIN MORGAN HAD A HORSE by Marguerite Henry (Grades 3-7)
I RODE A HORSE OF MILK WHITE JADE by Diane Wilson (Grades 4-8)
SCORPIO RACES by Maggie Stiefvater (Grades 8-12)
HALF BROKE HORSES by Jeannette Walls (Adult)
WHIP HAND by Dick Francis (Adult)
THE EIGHTY-DOLLAR CHAMPION by Elizabeth Letts (Adult)
- WHEN: SATURDAY, MAY 10 at 3PM
- WHERE: INDIANA GRAND CASINO & RACING. The awards ceremony will take place in the clubhouse 'party pit' on the second floor of the white building facing the track.
- WHO: Winners have been notified. Winners and their guests who plan to attend should RSVP to Laura Guenin at 317-398-7121 ext. 241 by May 1, 2014
